Dortmund Airport Train Transfers

Upon arrival at Dortmund Airport (DTM), passengers can choose from several ground transportation services, including rental cars, taxis, rideshares, hotel shuttle services, buses, and trains.

The central station at Dortmund Hauptbahnhof is approximately 13 kilometers from the airport. The fastest way to get there is to taxi for about €30 - €40 and takes 14 minutes.

There is also a direct bus service between Dortmund Airport and Dortmund Hauptbahnhof provided by AirportExpress. A one-way fare for this non-stop service costs €9. Travel time takes around 20 minutes.

You can also get to the Holzwickede train station, about 2 kilometers away, by taking the AirportShuttle bus for €3. Travel time takes around 6 minutes.

Look for the airport shuttle buses at the Ground Transportation Center in front of DTM.

Dortmund Hauptbahnhof (Central Railway Station)

The Dortmund Hauptbahnhof is the central railway station in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

It featured raised barriers to allow a better flow of traffic.

It was one of the largest train stations in Germany at its opening until it was destroyed in WWII in 1944.

The history of the facility dates back to 1847. In 1910, it was replaced by a new station at the exact location.

A few years after the war ended, the central station hall was rebuilt in 1952 in a contemporary style.

Today, Dortmund Hauptbahnhof is served by Thalys, Flixtrain, Deutsche Bahn Intercity-Express and Intercity services, including the following lines:

  • Duisburg–Dortmund
  • Dortmund–Hamm
  • Elberfeld–Dortmund

Holzwickede Station

Holzwickede station is a through the station in the town of Holzwickede in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The station was opened in 1860 and had five platform tracks, and Deutsche Bahn classifies it as a category 4 station.

The station is served by the following lines:

  • Rhein-Münsterland-Express (RE 7) between Krefeld and Rheine
  • Maas-Wupper-Express (RE 13) between Venlo and Hamm
  • Hellwegbahn (RB 59) between Dortmund and Soest
